Robert Freedman, AICP, MRAIC, LSUC Director of Urban Design, City of Toronto Planning Division Monday, April 19, 2010 6:00pm to 8:00pm George Rowland White Theatre, University Center, Point Park University 414 Wood Street - Downtown Pittsburgh Robert Freedman is a native of Toronto with a background and professional degrees in Architecture, Planning, and Law. His experience includes a wide variety of urban and suburban environments in both the private and public sectors. Since joining the City of Toronto as the Director of Urban Design, Robert has taken the lead on a number of major initiatives including design guideline studies for infill townhouses and tall buildings. Robert also has played a leading role in Toronto's Clean & Beautiful City Initiative and the establishment of a Design Review Panel for the City. He has worked with several City departments to improve the design of Toronto's buildings, streets, and small urban places. Between 1993 and 2002, Robert worked with Urban Design Associates, a Pittsburgh-based, award winning architecture and urban planning firm, where he worked on projects in more than twenty cities across the country. Robert is active as a founding member of the Council for Canadian Urbanism (CCanU). He has also organized a number of major Symposia, in partnership with the Canadian Urban Institute and the Toronto Society of Architects, on Design Review Panels, Mid-Rise Development, and Tall Buildings. Robert has authored several articles for Architecture and Planning Journals and is a frequent lecturer on urban design, architecture, and planning issues.
